About UMR-AMES

The UMR-AMES mixed research unit — Analysis and Modelling for Environment, Health and Industrial Systems — is accredited by Order No. 001013/MESRS and attached to the Institut Supérieur de Génie Industriel (ISGI) in Nouakchott. Directed by Dr. Marbe Begnoug, it brings together 37 researchers and PhD students from ISGI, the University of Nouakchott (FST, FEG), ENS, IMROP, PNBA and ONISPA.

Its mission is to bring advanced mathematical methods, statistical tools and artificial intelligence to bear on understanding, modelling and helping to solve the environmental, health and industrial problems facing Mauritania and the sub-region.

The first Joint Research Unit in Mauritania dedicated to the environment and health, UMR-AMES develops an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to these major challenges for the country. It brings together the most recognized scientific expertise in these fields and maintains close collaboration with Mauritania's leading institutional and academic partners.

Its work is organised around three thematic axes — Environment and Natural Resources (ERN), Public Health and Epidemiology (SPE), Industrial Engineering, Optimisation and Intelligent Systems (GIOSI) — carried by two research teams: Mathematics, Statistics and Modelling (MSM) and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (IIA).
