CIMPA School Nouakchott 2026

Overview

The CIMPA School Nouakchott 2026 was held from 26 January to 6 February 2026 in Mauritania. Devoted to the mathematical modelling of flow and pollutant transport in porous media, it was designed as interdisciplinary training at the interface of applied mathematics, hydrogeology, environmental sciences, numerical modelling and the physics of porous media.

Its aim was to strengthen the scientific capacity of young researchers, doctoral candidates and master's students by giving them access to advanced theoretical, numerical and methodological tools, and to raise their awareness of the environmental challenges facing Mauritania and the Sahelian and West African regions: groundwater resource management, aquifer pollution and the modelling of transfers in natural media.

Activities combined lectures, practical sessions, scientific discussions and hands-on work with numerical simulation tools. Particular attention was given to approaches linking phenomena observed at the pore scale to the macroscopic models used in hydrogeology and environmental engineering.
